CTS 5-7 - Lemonade Day #3-5

A quick note family, for I know I am behind. I was with family this past weekend and could not get one via my Blackberry to update my entries.

I am still going strong. Day 3 and 4 of the lemonade was very difficult. So much distraction and temptation around me, but I stuck to my guns. While my family is very supportive, some of our views on eating clash...but I still love them. How did I combat this temptation....I went shopping....lol....seriously don't suggest you do this but it worked.

Today was the usual. Back at work and drinking loads of water. By the way, I use water to break up the juice and its so relieving. Its even helping to keep the coating of the tongue down, which always a good thing.

As for my workout today, I did great. Jogged 2.65 miles on the treadmill, along with doing 1.35 miles on the elliptical. In total, I burned over 400 calories! So proud of myself.

I'm almost to the end family...wish me luck and keep me lifted! Be blessed....

CTS 5 - Lemonade Day #2

Good evening family,

Man....I can't believe it...its actually day 5 on the overall diet plan and day 2 on the lemonade....wow....to think that I have been cleansing my body, mind and soul for a week...very motivating right now.

I have to say implementing the ACV over the cayenne pepper was a great decision. I owe that edition to a great distant friend and adopted big sister, who has been coaching me threwout this entire process. Not only do I feel confident that I will stay consistent on the rest of the diet, but I am so motivated to see this threw to the end.

Today I drove in to see family and just hung out...you know...to get a break AND to attempt to celebrate before I have to go to work....begin to travel again...events/programs, etc and I just wanted to relax. Well, little did I know that I would be surroundede with smells of my fav foods and be tempted to quit and eat them...but I remembered WHY I am doing this diet and the results I will see in the end. That is what kept me focused...that and my handy bottles of water. Lol.

In the end, day 2 on the lemonade was not that bad. I still have 4 more days of the juice to go.... While the substitution of ingriedients helped, the coating of the tongue (from the lemons and maple syrup) is becoming harder and harder to bare. Again, I am dedicated to finish this "mini cleansing" so I can be confident that I can do longer ones in the future.

Until tomorrow family....be blessed!

CTS4 - Lemonade Day #1

Family I am not going to even front....today was uber hard! While I knew that it would be, I guess I didn't REALLY prepare myself for what was to come. I'm not talking about wanting to eat foods, but overall how I feel. Let me explain....

I got up this morning LATE and went to the gym. Did good...ran 2 miles on the treadmill and did 1.37 miles on the elliptical...overall much more than what I've been doing. Today let me know that I can do more than just walking/jogging. Came home afterward and realized that it was almost 11am, and I had not had anything to eat (drink) for breakfast. Due to this, I quickly made my Lemonade Diet.

For my first batch, I have to say that I am proud of myself. It really didn't taste that bad...until i added to much cayenne pepper. Lol. The drink (and my mouth/chest) was literally on fire! But I dranked it....like the G that I am. Again today, I didn't even realize that I had not eaten any solid foods. This makes it so much easier to stay focused and to not cheat (even though there was visions of Twizzlers all around me. lol).

I only started to feel a little nauseated around 2 pm after chugging a gang of the lemonade (I started late so I wanted to catch up....so not a good idea). The light headedness and nausea comes from the toxins moving out of my body. The body starts to feel as something is "wrong" when in actuality its feeling the "norm" (i.e. wanted to eat what you usually eat). Since I already eat decently healthy anyways (push the fruits and veggies), I really didn't experience to much of this. Honestly, I think the majority of it came from the huge amount of pepper I used.

For tomorrow, I plan to replace the cayenne pepper with apple cider vineger (ACV). For those of you who follow my blog, know that I implented this into my diet a few months ago, thanks to Coach Johnson of MVP Fitness. I spoke to "my big sister" (lol) who is well versed on doing the Lemonade Diet, hipped me to this substitution in the juice, who said that it does just as well if not better. PLUS my body is already use to this stuff AND it definitely helps with releasing the toxins daily from the body (movement).

So far so good family! I look forward to progressing threw. OH I FORGOT TO TELL YOU ALL....I also weighed myself today and I've already lost 4lbs! Keep in mind, that I am not even in the middle part of the lemonade phase yet. This is uber excited all....really.

As always, I wil keep you all posted of my experience and findings.....be blessed all and Happy New Year!!!!

Cleansing the Soul for the New Year!!!

Merry Christmas family! I know I have been gone from this blog for awhile, but I have not forgotten about YOU all and my goals. I hope you all have been successful with any and all of your weight loss goals and want to encourage you to stay prayed up and motivated.

To enter the new year right I am planning to cleanse not only my body, but my soul (and hopefully loose a little weight in the process of it). Starting Monday, I plan to embark on my first lemon diet experience. I have never done this, but am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead (cleaning the body of unnecessary toxins, focus and weight loss). Below I have listed some details of how I plan to progress threw the process:

Day 1-3 = "Ease In" - 12/28-30/09

Day 4-8 = Lemonade Diet - 12/31/09 - 1/4/10

Day 9-11 = "Ease Out" - 1/5-7/10

Day 12 = Regular Diet (transition into live food ONLY)

Please note - Only purified or distilled water can be used in the lemonade mixing. Daily I will drink an herbal laxative tea to assist with the removal of toxins in my body. Also, I plan to drink plain purified water in between the liters of lemonade.

My ultimate goal is to use this as a platform to move me into NO MEAT (including fish) at all. I also plan to implement a raw food diet for the new year as well...TBC on that one...lol

I plan to use this blog to journal my daily journal. While I know this will not be easy (especially once I get to day 2 of the lemonade diet stage), it is worth it to get healthier and more focused. If you want to join with me, feel free and leave a comment so I will know.

Enjoy the rest of 2009 and hope you have a blessed 2010!

Be The Best You Can Be

Family I received this Daily Word on my usual spiritual email listing. This is an original posting by Mr. Don Rice, a very anointed brother.

It really hit home for me, especially as I continue with my weight loss goals. Hope this blessed you as it did me....be encouraged all!

BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE

By: Don Rice

God has created you to live a full and healthy life. Within this full and healthy life are opportunities that will propel and promote you to new and exciting places. Each opportunity causes you to grow and expand as a person. God who has a plan for us then desires one thing from that and us is to be the best we can be.
Being the best we can be means that with consistency we give God our absolute all. We strive each day to live above the negative and the nasty by focusing on our relationship with Jesus Christ. We yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit and fulfill the mandate of Jesus Christ to obey his word and follow his teachings. Being our best is about living a life that pleases God. Be your best then. Work at life and work at satisfying God’s heart. Give your all and watch God through your life do the most amazing things. Today be the best you can be!

What's On Your Playlists.....

So I've been speaking with a few followers, and chatting with others about what music to listen to while working out. As you all are aware, I have a regimen that I try to stick with and the majority of the time I am using my Ipod to get threw my workouts (especially when I am forcing myself to stay on schedule:)

First, big shouts out to my girl TraBoogie (on twitter) for putting the question out to the masses, to gather ideas for her play work out list. Below are the top 20 songs (in no order) that always make the cute on one of my many list I've created to be productive while working out:

~ "Boom Boom Pow" - Black Eyed Peas
~ "Imma Be" - Black Eyed Peas
~ "I Got A Feeling" - Black Eyed Peas
(can you tell I really like them...lol)
~ Technologic (radio edit) - Draft Punk
~ Working Day and Night - Micheal Jackson
~ Forever - Chris Brown
~ Universal Mind Control - Common
~ Pocketbook - Jennifer Hudson
~ Super Friend - Mary Mary
~ Get Up - Mary Mary
~ God in Me - Mary Mary
(great motivators and good steady beat for running)
~ Poker Face - Lady Ga Ga
~ Party in the USA - Miley Cyrus (don't judge me....lol)
~ Seven Nation Army - White Stripes
~ Thats Not My Name - The Ting Tings
~ Shut Up and Let Me Go - The Ting Tings
~ I Still Love You - 702
~ I'm Goood - Clispe (a recent addition)
~ Makes Me Wonder - Maroon 5
~ I Know You Want Me - Pitbull

I also listen to a variety of spiritual podcasts and gospel music. Some of my favs that I am cureently subscribed to:

~ ABP King James Version - One Hour a Day
~ Joyce Meyer
~ Joel Olsteen
~ Bill Winston Ministries

Honestly, planning out my work out play lists is a serious matter. I'm a firm believer that what I plug into my ears sets the tone for the attitude throughout my time at the gym, or outside on the pavement (running/jogging/walking). At times when I am feeling low or conscious (due to a set back or a bad day), my playlists, podcast and other music cheers me up to GET UP and GET MOVING.

What songs are on your playlists for exercising family........?

November Activity Plan

And I'm back family......

For those who know me or follow me on Twitter @efficient1, I like to switch up my workout regimen. I totally believe in tricking the body so it doesn't get complacent and stop burning fat (dropping unwanted pounds). Most health professionals will agree that switching up your routine every 4-6 weeks helps to restart the body so it will continue to burn fat and develop muscle. Also, it helps with keep your blood pressure regular and reduces your risk of heart attacks/strokes.

As I continue with my healthy living goals (and as I prepare for my international trip), I decided to implement a special exercise regimen for the month of November. Since this is the first month since August that I am not traveling all over the country(lol), I figure I could make some headway on my weight loss and body toning initiatives.

A few weeks ago I posted my current healthy living regimen (click here) that was inclusive of eating, spiritualitg and exercising (and a few other things). I'm still following those tips, but I wanted to be more detailed in the actual activities to get my heart pumping on a weekly basis. See below for this month's plan:

Workouts

Julian Micheals "30 Day Shred"
Beach Body's "Turbo Jam" and "Hip Hop Abs"
Gym regimen - 3m run on treadmill, row machine & stair climber/bike

Frequency
4-6x's a week ( a minimum of 4 is a must)

So what is your regimen this month family? Do you actually sit and plan out how you will get up and moving daily? Have you been wanting to try something different to spice up your workout life? WELL TODAY IS THE DAY!!!! I challenge all of you all to post your regimens this month on either your blogs, youtube, facebook, twitter, etc. Feel free to put them in the comment section below as well. We are all in this together. Be blessed....

Exercise Log 22

Yeah, I'm still here family. Work has been crazy and I barely have been finding time to sleep. I've gotten a little off course, but I jumped back on the road of success and getthing fit for the Lord. While I am slightly disappointed in myself, I had to sit and think about how far I've come thus far.

The "Get Fit 4 Christ" plan is suppose to help you shed 10 lbs in 40 days. To date, I have melted away 5 lbs, but I have to stay focused in order to shed 5 more (and hopefully more). I've been working out and attempting to eat on the plan, but it is a days journey family. I too have set backs and indulge, but with God as my strength, I can sit here and type this now and start again on m quest.

You know its hard to keep this blog and put myself out here to you family. Having another person(s) see you fail and succeed all at the same time is a very hunbling experience. While I don't mind sharing my journey with you all, sometimes (or at least I do) its embarrassing to log to the masses what you ate OR to admit you havent worked out in three days. Lol. Below is today's workout:

Morning (5:30 am)
+ MVP Fitness "Get Fit 4 Christ" workout DVD

+ Biggest Looser "Cardio Max" DVD (level 2 &3 workouts)

(total time about 50 minutes)

Exercise Log 18

Aaaaaaw shoot....I'm switched up the font AND color on your family...must be a good sign for today's workout. LOL. You would be right.

My body has recouperated all. My knee is not hurting as much AND my muscles are not super sore. Because of this, I took full advantage of today and working out. Below is a description of today's workout:

MVP Fitness - "Get Fit 4 Christ" Workout DVD
+ 5 four minute circuits in total
+ strength, abs, cardio and full body workouts rolled ALL INTO ONE
+ 3 spiritual messages (breaks in workouts) by Pastor Winan
+ 30-40 minute total time

While it may not seem like much, it was kicking my butt. I was soaking wet as if I just came back from running. Coach Johnson's method works family. If my body is perspiring in such a short amount of time (and I'm fatigued and muscles are burning), that means I am pushing my body in a short amount of time....and I love.

I don't know you about you family, but I have a busy life. Getting a quick 30-60 workout into my schedule is a challenge..but feasible. Thanks to Coach Johnson, the strength from God and MY OWN SELF DETERMINATION TO GET INTO SHAPE I'm making the time and making it work.

Today is a new day family! Be persistent, positive and proactive!!! Do not sit and make excuses for yourself. Whether you need to loose 100 lbs or 10 lbs you too can get fit for the Lord.

Be blessed!

How Am I Feeling:

Family this week was crazy and ended in me being sooo exhausted today. There is no exercise log for today, for I literally had to motivate myself to leave my office to drive home...sad I know....lesson learned, don't ever let antyhing get more important than myself! In order for God to use me to do his work, I have to have ENERGY to fulfill his will.

Lunch was a semi flop...due to back to back meetings, I could not go home AND if my student worker didn't go to get me Subway..I've wouldn't ate. While I didn't realize that there was turkey on my sanwhich..until after the fact (because I was scarfing it down...bad I know.....need to take my time), it was still filling. I had to scarf down my lunch in literally 10 minutes for I had yet another meeting in the afternoon to attend.

Make sure you are putting yourself first family...no one (but the Lord himself) is more important than YOU.

Be blessed

Exercise Log 14

I was on it today family! Coach Johnson was able to fit me into his busy schedule and I am so appreciative. Now I don't feel like the step child of the "Get Fit 4 Christ" program. Lol.

At the studio, I did multiple circuits from his work out DVD (which can be order by clicking here). While I felt like I was in there for a long time...and the exercises kept going FOREVER...lol...I actually was not there that long. I think in total I was there for 30 minutes. In that time, I did strength training (using weights and my body), cardio and ab work. That is the type of workout I'm talking about...straight to the point.

I'm so encouraged right now since I've lost 5 lbs. I knew walking into the studio today Coach Johnson was going to want to weigh me..lol..I mentally prepared myself..but stop and remembered that God told us that "no weapon shall form against you" and so I stop worrying about if "fat/pounds" (my giants) were going to win and conquer over me today. See its a lot of mental self control too family...you have to speak positive words into existence over your life. Do not allow the status quo or your past faults keep you in bondage (mental and physical) from achieving what God has in stored.

While my joints still ache (sp), I am still pushing threw SAFELY for I believe in the power of prayer and I serve a healing God. So I guess we will see. Tomorrow is boot camp with other program participants. Keep me lifted family....

Daily Food Journal/Exercise Log #13

Yesterday's post is late I know, but better late than never family. I was super busy with work has to eat two meals outside of the meal plan...unplanned. This is the ways of my job, but I am excited to report that I am making good choices.

I'm feeling a little better on this day, then the day before. I have to stay focus and keep praying and reading so God stays the focus of my life. I'm so very blessed and gracious for Coach Johnson choosing me to be apart of this program. I want to make him proud, but also inspire my followers to try some of his techniques as well. I hope I won't let you down Lyle!

Please see below for my meals and workout routine for today:

Exercise Log Day 8

I know my post from yesterday is late, but better late than ever right!!!!

Family I did it....yes I got up at 5:30 am and was early to yesterday's boot camp. I actually showed up right before Coach Johnson (sorry I had to mention it). Lol. I worked out for less than an hour and had a GREAT work out. Thank goodness for this for the rest of my day (as far as eating) was a flop. Below are the details.

+ Boot Camp = 45 minutes

+ 1 mile run = less than 10 minutes

This post is short and to the point due to my crazy schedule today. On the agenda for tonight, TaeBo's Basic Boot camp and hopefully a 25 minute run. To be conitnued....

Daily Food Journal #8 (late post)

Today was my last day in town for work. I think overall I did good with sticking with the plan considering the constraints of eating on the go when you can't cook. Grocery shopping for my home happened tonight so I am set and ready to go for the next few weeks. I have to warn you, I did not eat full meals and snacks. You may see a dab of candy in there to (i know horrible). Below are the details of what I ate today:

Breakfast

+ 3 egg whites
+ 1/4 cup cooked broccoli
+ 1/4 mozerella cheese
+ 1 cup (8 oz) of 100% white grape juice (160 cal/2 fruit servings)

Morning Snack
+ 3 table spoon cottage cheese
+ 1 oz carrot chips

Lunch

+ 1 Hershey Milk Chocolate bar (210 cal) - this was a gift from a counselor I was visiting...I was so hungry and did not have any of my foods on me :(

Dinner

+ Spinach and artichoke dip, peta bread
+ Water
I was so disappointed at this. I waited to late to eat and was getting headaches. As always, another evening student event and my body needed food.

Water consumption = over 70 ounces
Supplements and vitamins = 1 Women's One A Day Multivitamin, 1 Trader Joe's Multivitamin, B12, 1 Biotin and Iron
ACV = 2 teaspoons
Alcohol = NONE

How I Feel

Honestly, I felt like crap on this today. I was so disappointed in the food choices that I made and was beating myself up for it. I was somewhat depressed for the rest of the night, gave myself a headache and went to be early. Tomorrow's post should be better, but again, I have a traveling lunch (food provided at a lunch meeting) event tomorrow and I have no idea of what is on the menu. I keep telling myself "fruits and veggies will set you free" lol. It would be rude to bring my own since its 2 hours away.

Soon I will post on strategies to healthy eating while traveling...for I am learning threw trial and error. I am confident that God will guide me and I have been equipped with the necessary strength, courage and wisdom needed to battle this monster....overeating. Keep me lifted fam....

9/5/09 Meal Plan Update

As I mentioned before, I am on vacay for the holiday. Have a great time by the way :)
Its been a challenge to participate in the meal plan that Coach Johnson sent us, that started yesterday, but I think I have done well with what I had to work with here. While I am ashamed at some fo the decisions I made (see lunch), I am a work in progress and know that with determination and continued prayer, I can over come bad food choices and/or over eating. This is not an excuse, but a reminder that this is a learning journey, and we all fall short. How you move on from it, determines part of how you will succeed in the end. I do not have a fridge or kitchen so I have to eat out, but I believe that you can still eat healthy while not cooking. Below is my detail list of my meal plan today:

Breakfast
+ 2 egg white omelet w/green peppers, onions and provolone cheese (they did not have mozarella)
+ 2 slices of whole grain wheat toast, parkay magerine, and strawberry jelly (they did not have apple)
+ 16 oz of orange juice

Lunch
+ 1/2 of a funnel cake with glaze (yeah...this was bad, but I couldn't resist)

Dinner
Ruby Tuesday's salad bar
+ 2 1/2 cups of green lettuce w/cucumber slices, red onion slices, lima beans, green peppers, 4 baby tomatoes, bracolli shears, blue cheese crumbles, regular ranch dressing
+ 10 seedless red grapes

Water consumption = over 50.5 oz (need to step it up tomorrow)
Supplements/Vitamins = Multivitamin, B12, Iron
ACV = none
Alcohol - white wine

How I feel
We decided to go to Wal Mart to get some non parishable such as bottled water, tortilla chips and salsa. The salsa can serve as a vegetable if I can't get all my servings in, and the chips will serve as my low calorie NON TRANSFAT carb snack (which will also satisfy my carb craving).

We did visit the winery so I did have a few glasses of wine. This is an area that I have come to terms needs a change. I don't drink daily or during the week at that. But I have notice that when around friends or visiting in town, I have been drinkign more wine than usual. I personally feel that is directly related to past weight gain and also a difference in the stomach area.....but I have to make the decision to reduce or remove my alcohol consumption if I want to see a difference. No excuses....

While I was nervous about my vacy, I am really proud of myself. I have been wating my water consumption, getting veggies and pushing away from the table when full. That is a difference that I have seen with me. I plan to start the MVP Fitness Meal Plan on Tuesday. This way I have my groceries and I am not tempted. Lol.

Keep me lifted family!

9/4/09 Update

Considering I'm officially on a short vacay, I decided to update you on the day in one post. Efficient I know...lol. If you've been following along, today is the 18 hour fast, and I feel great. I was concerned about how I would feel after my run...and then at noon (for that is when I start to hit the wall), but I did very well.

While running, I was listening to the rest of Romans and was highly motivated and inspired to push threw the pain. "If God is for me, who can be against me"....one of the scriptures that was resounding through my head as I ran and listen to Paul's message to us.

I was praying, giving glory, shouting (well not to loud) as I was exercising and felt renewed once I got done. I plan to incorporate monthly fasting as way to renew and refocus from now on. I thank Coach Johnson for having me do this.

Below is my exercise and food journal for this lovely day:

Exercise Log Day 4

(Wall-E can lift 12 lbs...why can't I)---------------->

I was a slacker today family. The only work out that I did today was the30 Day Shred with Julian Michaels (biggest looser trainer). I do not have the infamous MVP Fitness DVD (wink wink to Coach Johnson) so I have to work with what I got.

This work out is 20 minutes but really gets the heart rate up. You determine the level you want to work out at (1-3) and once you select it, YOU determine the level you want to burn calories. I am always on 100% with pushing myself (lol), but you can be at 50%.

How I feel
Honestly, I am trying to understand how I will get my work outs in while on vacation, but I am determined to get them in. Post may be delayed family, but they will come. Enjoy the holiday all!

Morning Questions.....

I'm am feeling a little discouraged because the eating plan starts on Saturday AND the fasting begins tomorrow...but I will be on vacation for the holiday :(.

Am I setting myself up for failure? Plus, i will not get to work out with coach or do any boot camps (or any of the DVD at that) until i get into the area next week (because I'm distant).....am I at a disadvantage?

I ran out of Crystal Lite on the go's...why is is so hard to drink this Bragg's with regular water? How in the world does Coach Johnson do this daily? Lol.

My fear is that i will get off track and not see the results that I am seeking. I have been praying and staying up on my readings....really makes a difference. Had a talk with God today and he said that "no weapons will form against me"...therefore, I shall be ok.

So really, there is no need to question as I did above, if I the Lord says "those who wait on the Lord will inherit the earth"...God has me covered. See this blogging thing is very therapeutic! Lol.

Water consumption (thus far): less than 16 oz because of the ACV. Lol

Exercise Log Day 3

Since I worked out yesterday, I decided to rest today. Besides, my joints are sore from the rigerous running from yesterday. I have not received my DVD yet, so I am doing my own work out DVD's until I receive it. Below is a list of some DVD's I've incorporated into my work out regimen (and would highly suggest):

30 Day Shred with Julian Michaels (biggest looser trainer)
Biggest Looser - Cardio Max
TaeBo Boot Camps (any of them)
Turbo Jam
Hip Hop Abs
Pilates with Dennis Richardson

How I feel
I'm very relaxed tonight. I feel a little lazy for not working out, but I always feel this way when I don't work out. I actually find myself beating myself up tremendously AND analyzing every little thing I ate the days I don't. I know its one day at a time and I can't come down that hard on me...but I also feel it keeps me grounded in some ways.

You have to remember to not get over obsessed with every little thing, and I am known to take it to another level. I have to remember that tomorrow is a new day, a fresh start and the past is the past. Tomorrow I will do one of my videos AND probably run. This way I am still working towards the 5k run AND getting stronger.

I can't wait to meet with Coach Johnson when I get into town. Lol

6 Essential Flat-Belly Foods

I came across this great post on Women's Health on good foods to reduce your belly fat. I eat a few of these products already, but I figured we could use the information to try something new. Enjoy!

Quinoa

Per ¼ cup:
170 calories
2.5 g fat
7 g protein
3 g fiber

For starters, anytime you choose a whole-grain product over one made from nutrient-stripped white flour, you wage war against belly fat. Penn State researchers found that dieters who ate whole-grains lost twice as much belly fat as those who stuck to white-flour products—even though they'd consumed the same number of calories. What's more, quinoa contains twice the belly-filling protein as regular cereal grains, fewer glucose-raising carbohydrates, and even a handful of healthy fats. So start your day off with a cup of cooked quinoa combined with a ½ cup of milk and ½ cup of blueberries—microwave for 60 seconds, and you have a delicious (and slimming) alternative to your traditional oatmeal. Bob's Red Mill Organic Quinoa won "Best Grain" in Men's Health's Best Foods Awards 2009.

Green Tea

Catechins, the powerful antioxidants found in green tea, are known to increase metabolism. A study by Japanese researchers found that participants who consumed 690 milligrams of catechins from green tea daily had significantly lower body mass indexes and smaller waist measurements than those in a control group. It's safe to say that green tea is one of the best beverages for your health—a stark contrast to any of these 20 unhealthiest drinks in America. Avoid those belt-buckling drinks at all costs.

Kefir

Per cup:
174 calories
2 g fat
14 g protein
3 g fiber

Think of kefir as drinkable yogurt, or an extra-thick, protein-packed smoothie. In either case, this delicious dairy product is a belly-blasting essential. Beyond the satiety-inducing protein, the probiotics in kefir may also speed weight loss. British scientists found that these active organisms boosted the breakdown of fat molecules in mice, preventing the rodents from gaining weight. The researchers still need to prove the finding in humans, but there's no danger in downing probiotic-packed products. We like Lifeway Lowfat Blueberry Kefir - it contains L. casei, the same probiotic used in the study.

Avocado

Per avocado:
322 calories
29 g fat (4 g saturated, 20 g monounsaturated)
13 g fiber
4 g protein

Never fear this full-fat Mediterranean-diet staple: It's teeming with healthy monounsaturated fats (also found in olive oil), which have been linked to lowered LDL cholesterol levels and weight loss. In fact, a recent longitudinal study published in The New England Journal of Medicine found that the healthy-fat Mediterranean diet was more effective than a diet that avoided fats altogether - so go ahead and indulge!

Eggs

Per 1 large scrambled egg:
102 calories
7 g fat (2 g saturated)
7 g protein

A British study found that people who increased the percentage of protein-based calories in their diet burned 71 more calories a day (that's 7.4 pounds a year!). Jumpstart your metabolism as soon as you wake up with a protein-rich breakfast of scrambled eggs.

Grapefruit

Per grapefruit:
104 calories
4 g fiber
2 g protein

A grapefruit a day in addition to your regular meals can speed weight loss. The fruit's acidity slows digestion, meaning it takes longer to move through your system, and you'll end up feeling fuller, and more satisfied, for longer. And the vitamin C-packed grapefruit works to lower cholesterol and decrease risk of stroke, heart disease, and some types of cancer.
